De La Vina Street to Get Two Pocket Parks

••• The new De La Vina Street bridge over Mission Creek involved demolishing buildings on both sides of the street, and J. asked what the plan is for that land. “No new structures will be constructed where the buildings had been,” says a city rep for the project. Instead, “there will be landscaped areas on each side of De La Vina adjacent to the new bridge construction.” It’d be handy if the one next to Handlebar had seating. The work is supposed to be done in the summer of 2027.

••• Free People is moving to 1036 State Street (at Figueroa), twice the size of the current store (1127 State), which will be converted to a Free People Movement store showcasing the company’s activewear brand.

••• The Palm Tree Music Festival is coming back to the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, and this year, it’s two days (October 10-11). The headliners are the Chainsmokers, Kygo, T-Pain, and Zedd. The Chainsmokers’ “Selfie” still cracks me up and takes me back. And the Kygo/Selena Gomez collab is a slice of pop heaven.

••• Motion Training Collective, currently at 918 Chapala Street, is moving to 320 State Street (just below Gutierrez).

••• Ingrid Michaelson plays the Lobero Theatre on October 16.

••• And two more Santa Barbara Bowl shows were announced: Thee Sacred Souls on May 15 and Australian duo Royel Otis on July 9.

••• A. asked whether this sign at the San Ysidro Debris Basin is temporary or permanent. The answer is somewhere in between the two. The sign is to remain up for four years after project completion, which means it will be taken down after January 24, 2029.

The De la Vina bridge takes 2 years to complete. They built the Empire State Building in just over 1 year. Just saying.
