The new Montecito restaurant sounds so EXCITING! As an ex-New Yorker, I must try it for sure.
VIVA MI AMIGO! I read that slighted verbiage a bit differently, but can see your POV clearly too
Been loving Tyler x Lieu Dit. Great selection of wines. Tasty small dishes and really nice atmosphere.
The Paradise Pie sounds like mud pie that was popular 40 years ago.
Bravo! Could not agree more.
Agree about The Riviera! Great ambiance, wonderful food and Kevin and Oliver, formerly of The Paradise, are delightful attentive owners. The staff is charming and funny while attentive. Don't leave without trying the chocolate pot de crême..We go weekly- they're like family.
Jeez, rather snide aside for a cultural news squib, eh? “Diverse historical realities” is clearly a reference to the idea that minority viewpoints are "undertold" -- that we all learn about Presidents in school, in industrial leaders like Ford and Carnegie, but few details about African-American slave life in the South, how the Chinese lived who built the US railroads, the inner (or even outer) lives of the Eastern Europeans who worked in Ford's factories or Chicago's slaughterhouses. "Alternative facts," by contrast -- and hopefully you know this -- are deliberate lies by those in power to unethically undermine opponents, to claim there's a dispute about the facts when there is none.
Why did they rip out and throw away the seats?
Well said, completely agree!
I completely agree with you regarding the trees on Anapamu and elsewhere in town. A diversity of plant life has always been a hallmark of Santa Barbara in my mind. There has been an unfortunate conflation in the minds of many that non-native = invasive or dangerous, and we're trending toward near monoculture with the fixation on planting only California live oaks or sycamores. It's become a moral crusade for many, with constant virtue signaling about "non-native" plants as if every non-native is a threat. I understand many of our old growth trees are unfortunately afflicted by disease, or may just be reaching the end of their life cycle, but preserving some of our distinctive botanical identity and flair seems as essential to me as preserving our historic architecture when it comes to protecting the character of Santa Barbara.
The added communal spaces and vegetation are both appreciated, even if ultimately it's just lipstick on the cancerous pig that is U.S. suburban mall sprawl.
And in 20 years they'll have to redo it again because it (already) looks outdated.
Dems outnumber republicans by a lot in SB, so a few noisy people online are not a very accurate reflection of this town or the for that matter the whole state.
236 E Cota St.
Oops! I think I misspoke, Dan. Got all tangled in this thread & confused you with one of Dear Leader’s minions. My apologies!
Equating Tim Walz with a cult leader is pretty rich coming from a Trump follower.
VIVA LOS ROJA AMIGO! Love the Sole at Red Barn and Birdie Cut at Tee Off!
I'm delighted you enjoy Siteline! But Dulzura Drive is definitely in Montecito, as you can see in the county's map: https://content.civicplus.com/api/assets/3f2f0982-7969-4411-98b8-c5df41ac2fa0?cache=1800
LOVE, love, love your siteline.. ❤️❤️. Dulzura is in Eucalyptus Hill, City of SB (not Montecito which is county). EH is an extraordinary neighborhood.
The Paradise Pie was TALL and FLUFFY (like the Food and Home photo) ..and delish. I hope you can unearth the recipe.
Perhaps the proprietors of Riviera Bar on Figueroa St. will know the pie recipe from Paradise Cafe? (They were former long time employees of Paradise Cafe). Also, Riviera Bar has excellent cocktails, delicious food and great service, one of the best bars in town.
Jeez - I've been here for 10 years, which is still not all that long - so I can remember my East Coast days, where the perceptions about this town are mostly about how radical left it leans. If those people came out here and passed some time at the Red Barn, or the Tee Off, they would be amazed!
Please please PLEASE on the Pie recipe!
I looked at 409 E. Valerio when it came on the market last year and it is super charming and in a great location, but it's part of a mini condo association with two properties behind it on Shasta that turned off a lot of potential buyers.
Re Paradise Pie - the staff at Riviera Bar might know! Most of them are ex Paradise employees!!
