Holiday Gift Markets Are Popping Up All Over

••• From the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History: “We’re holding a series of outdoor pop-up shops with favorite vendors from our beloved annual fundraiser Folks & Tribal Arts Marketplace. […] All pop-ups run Fri–Sun, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Check out sbnature.org/calendar for details on the full lineup of vendors and dates, which also includes Anomaly Imports, RoHo Goods, and La Calenda Santa Barbara. 25% of sales benefit Museum exhibits and programs. Shopping the pop-ups and store are free, no reservation is required, and Museum admission is not included.”

••• On Saturday, December 5, the parking lot at Dylan Star in the Funk Zone will be the site of a flea market with vintage clothing and gifts (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

••• And the following Saturday, December 12, a Lady Made Holiday Art Market will be at the Dart Coffee Garden, across from Dart Coffee Co.

••• The overhaul of Santa Claus Lane isn’t happening anytime soon, judging from the extension request on the agenda of the County Planning Commission hearing set for December 2.

••• 749 San Ysidro Road, the 12.77-acre property that recently came on the market for $62 million, is simultaneously looking to subdivide into four three-acre parcels.

••• On Thanksgiving morning, I found myself—along with everyone else in line at Bree’osh—embroiled in conflict with a man I later called a “maskless asshole picking a fight about ‘freedom.'” Well, he emailed me about it over the weekend, and I wanted to share this part:

My wife subscribes to your social media, and I noticed a picture of a familiar pumpkin pie. I wanted to say how much I enjoyed your Thanksgiving post. It got me thinking…always a good thing. Yes. I am the asshole. […] May they forgive me. Like many people I have been angry and blaming certain groups of people for what I believe is a huge inconvenience to me. Like it or not. I think it’s all nonsense, the pandemic, the riots, the lack of leadership, the election, etc. That being said, I do want to apologize for my less than exemplary behavior. It was not my best moment, and I expect better from myself. Forgive me for contributing to a disturbance that marred the solitude of an otherwise beautiful morning. Whether we identify by nation, race, party, being a human, or otherwise, it is essential that we remain open hearted to others, and their unique way of seeing things. I hope this has me looking to others needs and not my own as first place. I hope this incident softens and opens my own heart to the most important facet of the season, preserving the sacred brotherhood and men and women.

Who makes/sells the embroidered holiday ornaments you have pictured here? Thank you!

They were at the SB Natural History Museum pop-up. The museum could tell you if they’ll be available again.
