Blackbird Is Reopening as More of a Bar

••• The Hotel Californian’s Blackbird is reopening: “We are ready to safely welcome you back, with an extensive craft cocktail list and light bites, to satisfy any indulgent craving you might have. Join us for a soft opening this Thursday, November 5, from 5 p.m.-10 p.m., and for our grand reopening on Thursday, November 12.” So it sounds like it’s more of a bar, at least for now, which was the plan announced way back in September 2019. I’ve reached out to see if the food menu is available.

••• Neighbor Tim’s BBQ is closing. From the announcement: “In two weeks, Sunday 11/15/20, will be our last day of BBQ service in Goleta/Santa Barbara. With our growing family my Mrs. & I have collectively decided it is best to pack up our family and BBQ business to relocate it to a more populated city out of state which will also lead us to get into some spacious and very affordable housing.”

••• Teru, the Japanese restaurant from former Sakana chef Teruhisa Ogue, isn’t ready to debut quite yet, as he had hoped. The exterior looks nice, though.

••• The Dutch Garden, a German restaurant, now hopes to reopen early next year. —Restaurant Guy

••• The Independent profiles the new Flocking Fabulous wine brand, “a collaboration between longtime winemaker/preservation architect John Wright of Standing Sun in Buellton and a couple named Jeremy Fraser and Tim Tighe, who run a tasting room called The Hideaway in Los Olivos.”

••• Part of the plastic taped in Paradise Cafe’s window has peeled off, so I was forced to peek inside. We still don’t know what Acme Hospitality is planning, but I like what I saw. P.S. Is it meaningful that the Paradise Cafe Instagram account has been renamed @lapalomacafesb? The exterior has been painted dove gray….

Yes- it was La Paloma for about 50 years and multiple generations. Much longer than it was the Paradise. Cool history!
