••• Rascal’s, the vegan pop-up that recently sold “meatball” sandwiches at Telegraph Brewery and “egg” sandwiches at Low Pigeon says it’s taking a break come October, returning to action in December. In the meantime, its next pop-up is tomorrow (Friday) at Super Cucas on W. Micheltorena: There will be “a special of the day called the ‘Rascal’s burrito’ [pictured above]. Which will contain beans rice guacamole, potatoes and our ‘suadero.’ It will be available all day.” UPDATE: Starting at 6 p.m., he’ll be slinging “cheesesteaks” at Municipal Winemakers on Anacapa in the Funk Zone. And he posted this mission statement:
I would like to reintroduce myself, my name is Dalan I went vegan about 14 years ago. I was disgusted in the way we treat animals and have been an advocate for animal rights ever since. I always enjoyed cooking and was saddened by the lack of of options here in Santa Barbara. I started this project over a year ago to change that. Rascals is 100% vegan and would never promote something that isn’t. The projects I work on are things that I want as a consumer and is never about the money, it’s about creating an alternative to cruelty and trying to create a better world.
••• Restaurant Guy item #1: Ninety-percent vegan “Honey B Cafe, which shared rooftop space with Antioch at 602 Anacapa Street, closed on August 29. Honey B’s Instagram page says they hope to open in a larger space elsewhere in town in the near future.”
••• Restaurant Guy item #2: “Dim sum destination Asie Dumpling House has opened at 511 State Street, which until very recently was the home of eatery Lao Ma Tou that apparently has closed.”
••• Restaurant Guy item #3: Pan-Asian restaurant Oku has opened on E. Cabrillo. The menus still aren’t online.
••• The Good Lion will be mixing cocktails at Sullivan Goss gallery tonight for the opening of an exhibit called Mixology.
••• Great to see a bunch of restaurants get certified by the Surfrider Foundation as Ocean-Friendly Restaurants: Bettina, Ah Juice, Bossie’s Kitchen, and the three establishments at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort.
