••• The SuperMoss store is finally getting ready to open at 922 State Street (Canon Perdido/Carrillo) on February 21. (Thanks to S. for the tip and photos.) There’s more than moss: “Our founder, a passionate gardener and former garden center owner, saw the potential in natural materials to bring warmth and creativity into homes and gardens. What started as a small, family-driven project has grown into one of the most trusted names in decorative moss, floral supplies, and garden-inspired design.”
••• The Aveda store in Paseo Nuevo has closed.
••• In April, The Base gym will move around the corner to 122 Gray Avenue.
••• Sierra Ferrell plays the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 6.
••• The Santa Barbara Airbus‘s LAX shuttle has added a stop in Oxnard. The total ride time from Goleta to LAX now ranges from 2:30 to 3:40, depending on time of day.
••• While walking along the Cabrillo Boulevard side of the Andrée Clark Bird Refuge, my husband and I noticed people hanging out on a platform on the north side. If I ever knew the platform existed, I had forgotten…
…, so I went for a look a few days later. There are actually three platforms on the north side. Dogs are not allowed in the refuge, which makes sense, but it’s still a shame because the path is perfect for them.
After platform #1, I came upon a mysterious indentation in the reeds; and then platform #2 (the one the people were on, and where someone had left an apple); a bridge; and platform #3. It was around that time that a woman on the railroad track began yelling a racist slur over and over, possibly at me (but if so she was wide of the mark).
The path eventually gets blocked by a chain-link fence—otherwise you’d end up at the zoo. How cool, though, if one day there as a trail all the way around….

Ohhhhh…I noticed one of those platforms at the bird refuge a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the tip! I’ll check out them out up close.
