The Pad Climbing Gym Opens This Week

••• The Pad Climbing opens this Friday, September 19, at the Magnolia Shopping Center: “The brand-new facility marks the region’s first full-scale climbing gym, with over 14,000 square feet of terrain, top-rope walls towering up to 37 feet, dedicated bouldering, a yoga studio, coworking lounge, and showers. […] Known for its inclusive, equity-driven approach to climbing, the company offers: 24/7 member access; free rental gear for all climbers; included intro classes to get new climbers started; discounted memberships for students, educators, healthcare workers, and families; scholarships through the Climb4Community fund; and youth and adaptive programs for all abilities.”

••• The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at San Ysidro Road will reopen the morning of September 19.

••• The vacant lot at 35 Anacapa Street (at Mason) in the Funk Zone—once slated to be developed with “two 6-room small hotels (total of 12 hotel rooms, ±300 square feet each), hotel lobby/amenities/back-of-house, and other commercial services including: corner market/bodega, restaurant, and tasting rooms”—has been sold for $5.05 million. No word yet on whether the plan is changing.

••• The Santa Barbara Indie Film Festival (probably not known as SBIFF) is September 19-21 at the Alhecama Theatre.

••• Los Lobos will play an acoustic set at the Lobero Theatre on December 4.

••• Opening September 19 at Tamsen Gallery: Inside Heaven’s Gate—Behind the Scenes with Susan Bridges. “In 1979, Bridges was granted unparalleled access by Academy Award-winning director Michael Cimino, as well as the producer and cinematographer, to photograph the making of the movie Heaven’s Gate.” (Image © Susan Bridges Photography.)

The Pad isn’t the first full-scale climbing gym in SB. theSanta Barbara Rock Gym on State Street has been the only climbing gym in town for 12 years.

Man I hope someone builds nice condos/apartments at 35 Anacapa. Talk about a GOOD place to cram some housing. It’d be a great spot to live and add to the neighborhood.
