The Fight Over La Cumbre Country Club

••• Press release: “Santa Barbara now has its first—and only—EMS studio: EMS Body Atelier,” at 924 Anacapa Street. “Electrical muscle stimulation delivers a highly efficient, low-impact, full-body workout in just 20 minutes. […] You wear a specialized suit with embedded electrodes that sit over major muscle groups. As you move through simple exercises—like squats or lunges—the suit delivers controlled electrical impulses that trigger deeper, more intense muscle contractions than voluntary movement alone. The benefits include significant muscle fiber activation, low joint stress, and enhanced recovery.”

••• Another Pilates studio is opening in town: Pilates Cult, from two longtime instructors, will debut at 11 W. Figueroa Street in February.

••• La Cumbre Country Club members Alan Salzman and Mike Nicolais submitted an offer to buy the club and make necessary improvements to the golf course and clubhouse, which many members are in favor of. The board, however, prefers to solicit other offers. Some objections to the improvements come from longtime members unable and/or unwilling to pony up. It’s a dynamic my husband and I saw from one side at our old co-op apartment building in New York City, and my parents are seeing from the other side at their community outside Palm Springs. Is gerontification a word? UPDATE 11/30: As Jay Smith noted, the offer to buy La Cumbre Country Club has been withdrawn.

••• Game Seeker‘s new location at 920 State Street (Canon Perdido/Carrillo) has opened, just in time for the holidays.

••• Sullivan Goss‘s annual 100 Grand exhibit, with 100 artworks for $1,000 or less, begins December 1. “Everything will go live on the website at the same time that the doors open. Those who wish to inspect the work in person will be let in on that Monday at 9 a.m. sharp. Works will be alphabetized by artist last name. Last year, the gallery was astonished to see that almost 60 percent of the exhibition sold on the first day. Collectors and fans are encouraged to plan accordingly.”

••• A show of work by Dora Vital opens December 4 at Seimandi & Leprieur gallery.
