Santa Barbara County Got Sent Back to the Purple Tier

••• “Santa Barbara County moved backward to the most-restrictive tier status [i.e., purple] in California’s reopening system [….] Indoor operations of fitness centers and gyms, restaurants, places of worship, movie theaters, personal care services and museums and zoos are not allowed in the purple tier, according to the state Covid-19 reopening framework [….] The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department will issue new health officer orders soon, with details on required closures,” and you can expect it to hew closely to the state recommendations. —Noozhawk

••• The tree of the month is the Eugenia. “Eugenia has been grown in Santa Barbara since the 1880s.  In its tree form, it has been planted and maintained by the City on many of our streets and in our parks. In its hedge form, it has been planted and maintained by a multitude of homeowners to outline and/or screen their yards and gardens. […] The largest Eugenia tree in California, as listed in the California Big Tree Registry, stands on the grounds of the historic Stow House in Goleta. This arboreal giant is over 140 years old, reaches more than 70 feet tall, carries a canopy spread of over 60 feet, and has a trunk diameter of almost 5 feet.” —Edhat

••• “After more than a year and a half after the expected finish date, Santa Barbara High School unveiled [its] new Peabody Stadium [….] It features a state-of-the-art, synthetic track surface so the Dons can finally practice on campus and host their first track meets since the mid-1990s. […] Eventually the community will be able to use the track but not right now due to Covid-19.” Because you can sit at a restaurant for over ran hour but you can’t run outside on a track…? —KEYT

As the 2021 President-Elect of the 55 year-old nonprofit Santa Barbara Beautiful, I am thrilled to see our “tree of the month” appear here, brought over from Edhat. Thanks Siteline!
