••• From the county’s Public Health Department: “Beginning January 11, a mobile Covid-19 testing unit will be available to support the expansion of testing throughout the county. The mobile testing unit will be located at CenCal Health in Santa Barbara (4050 Calle Real) from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. This test site will be available from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday thereafter for a minimum of two weeks and available to all community members. The mobile testing unit will then move to a new location which will be announced. To request an appointment, please go online. If you need assistance registering, call 211. […] In addition to the new mobile testing site, expanded Covid-19 testing is also available [at Isla Vista at] Isla Vista Theater, 960 Embarcadero del Norte, Fridays and Saturdays, 12 – 5 p.m. Walk-In only (no appointments).” The cost isn’t mentioned.

••• The construction of the Las Positas and Modoc Roads Multiuse Pathway—that needs a new name—has necessitated some changes on Las Positas. From a city press release: “Temporary traffic control and striping changes will be implemented along Las Positas Road between Modoc Road and Cliff Drive through October 2021. The northbound bike lane will be temporarily removed within a portion of this segment, just north of Cliff Drive. Speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph, and traffic shifted to allow enough buffer for construction work to occur safely. Drivers must temporarily share the road with cyclists.”
••• On Wednesday, the city will host an online seminar about Accessory Dwelling Units: “The workshop will summarize the main amendments to the City’s ADU ordinance and provide information about applying for a permit and removing the owner occupancy provision from existing covenants, followed by a Q&A with Planning and Building & Safety staff.” Register here.
••• The January 14 agenda of the Montecito Board of Architectural Review includes another new house at 1355 Oak Creek Canyon Road in Montecito. (One is already under construction, and another is likely on the way.) This one is small for that area—just 1,906 square feet, although there is also a guest house, a detached garage, a tea room, and a service room. No clue what those last two might mean.
••• Moving into a new house has meant culling our book collection. The Book Den bought a few, and I took the rest to the library, across the street, where there’s a bin around back. Collections are handled by something called Discover Books, which sells them for a couple of bucks each. I prefer not to help large out-of-town businesses undercut small local businesses, so next time I’d rather find another solution. Does anyone know of other outfits that might want used books? Like to get a covid test. My parent has it I visit them. Very little contact with them. It was the week of 01/22/21. And I work with some mature persons. Just want to be safe for them.
