••• The Casa Agria taproom inside the multi-tenant Kim’s Service Department (State Street between Gutierrez and Haley) announced that it’s closing today (December 28). It opened in November 2024.
••• Bluewater Grill is “looking for a buyer of the business at the iconic lighthouse building” on Cabrillo Boulevard. “They will give it about 90 days and close after that if no buyer can be found.” —Restaurant Guy
••• Aegean is taking a break and will reopen January 29. And after today, Secret Bao is closing for two weeks.
••• Restaurant Guy has exciting news for children and the people who eat like them: “Raising Cane’s is coming to 7000 Hollister Avenue in Goleta, the current home of Kyle’s Kitchen which is moving across Hollister Avenue next year to a space next to Target. Raising Cane’s is a U.S.-based fast-food chain that has built its business around a narrow menu focused almost entirely on chicken finger meals.”
••• My friend E. is searching for the best coffee cake in town. I recommended Merci‘s, but it’s sold by the slice and she’s looking to feed a group. Any other suggestions? (P.S. Bakers can make Merci’s at home.) UPDATE: Suggestions so far include Deux Bakery, Messy the Baker (who bakes the slices at Old Town Coffee), and Awkward Pastry in Ventura. Coffee cake muffin at brass bear in carp!
The Awkward Baker is located in Ventura but they do pop ups at The Eddy sometimes. Their Streusel Crumb Coffee Cake is the best.
The staff at Bluewater Grill stood out for their attentiveness and laid back charm.

Agree ……the cinnamon raisin bread in Oat Bakery is good. I’d like to add pecans rather than walnuts though. Pain D’avignon in Chatham MA has one like that. It’s amazing! Also ….. trying to score bread at Oat Bakery before Cmas was an huge ordeal. Ran out in Goleta, and Montecito …. huge lines in town.
Awkward pastry (Ventura)! Just ordered her 8-10 person coffee cake for Christmas and it was a HUGE hit. So good!!
