Carpinteria Is Getting Another New Restaurant

Carpinteria’s culinary upgrade started with an import from L.A., Little Dom’s Seafood, and continued with Linden Hall’s quartet of Santa Barbara restaurants (Tina’s from Bettina, Corazón Cocina, Third Window, and the upcoming Dart Coffee Co.). The next major newcomer hails from Ojai: the popular Ojai Rôtie is taking over the old Giovanni’s Pizza building at the southeast corner of Linden Avenue and Carpinteria Avenue. (Thanks to 805Foodie for the first tip about this.)

The Carp outpost will be called Ojai Rôtie-Deux, and it’ll be along the lines of the original. “We’ll have the same menu—rotisserie chicken, fresh sourdough bread, and so on,” says co-founder/chef Lorenzo Nicola. He’s understandably excited about the opportunities offered by the new building, including indoor space, a bigger kitchen, and possibly a room for private events. “We’re going to make the hood ornament of the Pacific Coast!” he says. They’re shooting for January, but of course these things are unpredictable.

P.S. Also on Carpinteria’s horizon, but further out, is the new restaurant in The Palms building (with an affiliated market next door), which promises to be another exciting addition.

I continue to be wowed by the evolution of Carp! I only wish we had something like Linden Square in Montecito/Summerland/Bird Refuge (Post) instead of the Rodeo-Drive-like offerings that we now have in Montecito and “Baja” Montecito.

I agree! Feels like we keep getting the same genre of restaurants (expensive also) opening up in Montecito and I would love to have a linden square/public market kind of casual dining with different cuisines open up in that part of town.

Not only is OSPI at the POST expensive, it’s not very good. Chicken parm not edible. Spicy rigatoni much too spicy. Generic spaghetti with orange sauce, yuck. I guess they will make money on their booze.

We love sitting at the bar (made out of sea glass) at Ospi, ordering the Pepe-Roni pizza and enjoying a basil margarita with salt foam. It’s not too expensive and a fun date night!

Fermented sourdough bread – yummy. Nice upscale picnic vibe. Chicken meal looks delish. Can’t wait.
