Another Huge Price Cut for the “Floating Home” in the Harbor

••• The distinctive “floating home” in the harbor is back on the market for $2.75 million, nearly half off the $4.9 million it asked when it first came online in the fall of 2023.

••• The Montecito Trails Foundation says that “the finish line is in sight” for the reconstruction of the upper part of the San Ysidro trail, which has been closed for a long time. And “our next chapter will be the Romero Jeepway, which is planned for 2026.”

••• “Any insights on what the Klaus Automotive building (4235 State Street) on Upper State is going to be?” asked U. “I drive past it everyday and am so curious.” Unless something has changed, the 3,128-square-foot Sunstone Cannabis Market is getting built there.

••• The new-ish owner of 1322 Dover Road on the Riviera didn’t want the “rain totems” after all, so they’ve been removed. Jared Darlington, who installed them with his sister, Louise Levine, says he has plans to do something with them on his property nearby.

••• Let’s have more of local celebrities riffing off local stuff (and more of Steve Martin riffing off anything)….

••• The post about the San Ysidro Debris Basin elicited two questions from readers, which Seth Shank, Regulatory Compliance Manager for Santa Barbara County Flood Control, agreed to answer.

“Can we get an update on the Buena Vista debris basin? We had been told that it would be installed this year by the County. That was in response to having the nets removed.”

Construction of Buena Vista debris basin is awaiting FEMA funding with potential implementation in 2026. Maybe I am misunderstanding but the Buena Vista basin was not identified in response to the debris net removal. It was identified after the debris flow and independently of anything debris net related.

“When will Randall Road debris basin be open for hiking?”

The District worked with the Montecito Trails Foundation to include a potential future pass through trail along the upper access road outside of the basin in order to connect to the San Ysidro Trail. The trail would still need to get approval and be developed through the private property of La Casa de Maria and the District is not involved in that process.

••• During a recent stretch, I was in Ventura—not just passing through, but in it—three days in a row, which is a personal record. On day one and two, I tried out Mothers Tacos and Pinyon (more on that soon), and on day three, my husband and I rode our bikes from the southern terminus of the Ventura River Parkway Trail (comprising the the Ventura River Trail and the Ojai Valley Trail) to Ojai for lunch at Rory’s Other Place. If you’ve never ridden the trail before, it’s a treat, with scenery that changes from industrial to residential to rural to bobo. At times, you’re right alongside Route 33, but most of the time you’re far from cars. And if you have ridden it before and remember it being not in the best of shape, the trail has been refurbished and is in excellent condition.

You didn’t mention the “art” instillations along he first part of the bike trail. I hope they are still there (fake oranges, the “mark” signs)

I don’t want to alarm anyone but I think The Borg has used a wormhole to travel back in time and land in our midst, in the harbor.

Somewhat more seriously, the last few photos in the current link show how completely out of place this is in the harbor.

It was supposed to become a Chick-fil-A but I have no idea if that’s still happening.

Rain totems from Dover’s Neutra house have been moved to top of Jimeno street and APS where the family moved to after the fire.

The Neutra house that the Levine’s bought in the mid 80’s was where I would stay a month out of every year as they would travel to Europe. It was such a great time. Louise would stock the fridge and the bar before they left town. Jay I hope the poles are visible from the street

From the MTF website: “This 7-mile route that connects the trailhead to East Camino Cielo […] allows for a longer, more gradual climb to the top.”
