Me, too! I never go to the overpriced restaurants, but do go to coffee shops — and, especially, to the art museum. They, the museum, should agitate for the free 75 (90 was better); without it, the museum will lose some local members, including probably me. As for the library, the present admin. there has made it clear they do not care about local adult and homed patrons.

Is 17 acres on Romero Canyon worth 25mm? Not sure but please factor in the cost of tearing down the nightmare of an existing house.
Fantastic! You go Katie!
It will certainly keep me from downtown
A coffee shop like the brass bird in carpinteria would be amazing. Those folks really know what they are doing.
The people pushing to eliminate free parking seem to think that retail browsing and fancy restaurants are the only reasons folks go downtown. This is not true!
Raise the rates if you must, but PLEASE keep free 75-minute access--these things matter to families and folks that use the (free!) library or visit the art museum (often free!), pick up a prescription at CVS or run other quick errands, view community performances (often free!) ... folks shouldn't have every time they go downtown.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Exactly!!!
The city of SB should buy the news press building and put the police station there, it’s all ready to go, plenty of space to expand it, save all of us tax payers some money, but that probably makes to much sense, just like they should have put it at the old Sears building is or the the national gaurd building…
Helena Avenue Bakery's chocolate cherry babka is the best I've ever had!
Yep, you hit the nail on the head
They are their own worst enemy. "We are business friendly" - proceed to increase regulations on local business and require permits/approvals for everything. "We need to bring down the cost of housing" - proceeds to enact ordinances that make the cost of construction increase.
coffee shop is a great idea!
The city is out of compliance with a state mandate regarding affordable housing, so projects are able to skirt by certain zoning laws if they meet certain affordable housing targets. The city still has to approve them but has much less power in being able to do so.
It’s very unfortunate that the city makes it so difficult for local business to open.
Yeah think you’d get a lot of people using a coffee shop there.
It would be great if they put in a coffee shop on the pier. It’s such a great place to stroll (yes, even for locals!)
Hopefully, they'll get it right. Glad that it is not an out of town group like the Reunion Kitchens group of Orange County and their corporate generic take on the "All American Menu" that has made the wonderful Cabrillo Pavillion such an avoidable place. What's worse than a great old landmark place where you really want to be but where you really don't want to go?
Apparently I misremembered that....
When was the space at State Street and N. La Cumbre Road a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf?
Bossie’s Jelly Donuts are incredible!
too simple.
Who is approving all of the ridiculous projects? We need to find out and vote them out of office. I am thoroughly disgusted with my hometown of 60 years!!
Always nice to see the rules apply to billionaires on occasion...
