First Look at Bistro Amasa’s Lunch Menu

••• Tyler x Lieu Dit is “taking a seasonal pause and using the quieter winter months to make a few thoughtful updates,” promising to reopen in the spring.

••• Mother Dough Bagels has expanded its days of operation beyond Friday through Sunday: it’s now open Wednesdays and Thursdays (8 a.m.–1 p.m.), too. The menu is still a bit limited on the new days.

••• John Palminteri reports that the Waterfront Department received three applications for the Anchor Rose spaces—one for upstairs, two for downstairs.

••• Beginning this week, Bistro Amasa is serving lunch Wednesday through Sunday. The porch should make for a lovely setting. Here’s the menu, along with a photo of the steak sandwich.

••• The annual Garagiste Wine Festival is February 6 and 7 in Solvang.

••• Something I had never seen before: Rascal’s is selling “memberships.” For $25 per month or $250 per year, you can get “a complimentary chef-selected appetizer every Wednesday; a complimentary agua fresca every Wednesday; 10% off during regular service days; early access to pre-fixe dinners, specials, and limited events before they open to the public.” (Annual memberships also include a “complimentary large bamboo cutting board for first time members.”)

••• Piroshky Piroshky, an Eastern European bakery based in Seattle, is popping up at the Brass Bear Uptown again on February 12. Below: a beef-and-cheese piroshky. (“You may be asking, ‘What is a piroshky?’ It’s an Eastern European turnover sandwich […] available in both sweet and savory.”)

Could we get Mother Dough’s address? It’s not evident on their website

604 Santa Barbara Street, across from the new SBPD headquarters under construction. Happy to help but of course there’s always Google….

To be fair, Mother Dough’s website is a tad confusing. Yes, the Santa Barbara Street number is right below the large bagels photo next to the hours, but if you click on its contact page, the address is shown as “1505 Olive St., Santa Barbara 9301”. I suggest that it would be best to update as soon as possible.

Unfortunately as part of Tyler’s closing for remodel, they laid off all their employees with zero notice. Showed up to work and were told to go home. I won’t be going there when they reopen.

Bistro Amasa because they can. Coke, $6; Lox & Bagel, $40: Steak Frittes, $57. Wow.

The “lox and bagel” is actually a delicious, large portioned salmon filet entree. There is no bagel involved.

As I was driving by mother Doughs on Sunday I saw a group of people on the sidewalk, as I passed I realized the group on the sidewalk was the end of the line of about 30 people waiting to get in to buy their bagels! I’ve been wanting to try it I guess I’ll have to go early
Very popular place
