••• The grand opening of the Goleta location of Drover’s Doughnuts—at 5745 Calle Real, most recently a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf—is January 17. The company also has shops in Buellton and Solvang.
••• Exciting news in Carpinteria: Peter and Caroline Hernandez are opening Coyotes Market in the former Carp Kitchen space on Carpinteria Avenue. Look for it this spring. From Caroline:
We’re lucky enough to be partnering with Motley Crew for all of our meat and seafood sourcing. We’re sourcing as much of the meat and seafood from the Central Coast as possible, and the majority from California. We’ll also be carrying pantry staples and kitchenwares, also sourced as locally as possible, with all of those items from California. On top of that, we’ll also carry a selection of kitchen knives. As we want to make sure we’re offering the community the finest knives available, those will be sourced from both local makers and renowned knife makers from Japan, Germany, and the greater U.S.
Peter and I have had this concept in mind for years, as we’ve been constantly disappointed with our options for sourcing sustainable, humane, and local meat/seafood in the greater Santa Barbara area. There have been a ton of new businesses opening here in Carp (yay!) and we’re excited to join their ranks as one that is actually owned and operated by Carpinteria residents. Both Peter and I were born and raised in Santa Barbara, and are really thrilled to be able to open a business less than a 10-minute drive from our home in Carpinteria.
••• Thanks to Derek for the tip that Santa Barbara Food Connection (Milpas/Canon Perdido) has closed. The food trucks are still operational, as is its sibling restaurant, Downtown Eats, inside M. Special’s State Street taproom.
••• Anchor Rose at the harbor has closed, and Restaurant Guy says “the next tenant […] might be the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company,” which would be spectacularly depressing. UPDATE: Applications for the RFP process are due at 3 p.m. today, so nothing has been decided yet. The upstairs and downstairs spaces are being offered separately. UPDATE: And without getting into the details of I know this, it’s unlikely that Bubba Gump will be moving into the Anchor Rose space.
••• It looks like Jonesy’s Fried Chicken isn’t taking over the former Derf’s after all. The space is for lease, and according to the listing agent, “remodeling/constructing [is] projected to begin in a month or two.”
••• “Santa Playa Mariscos is officially closed, their sign is gone, and Yona Redz now occupies the entire space [at 1230 State Street] exclusively.” —Restaurant Guy
••• An update on Frinj Coffee, back from bankruptcy. —Independent
••• The corner space at 801 State Street (at De La Guerra) is being built out as a small restaurant—you can see the counter if you peek in. There’s no tenant yet. Care to dream about what might end up there?

Bubba Gump? Oh, god, no.
Interesting- Zookers in Carp is doing a fantastic job with their meat market. Best sandwiches in the area as well.
Be nice if Siteline did some sleuthing on whether Rudy’s in Carp is going to re-open after the fire.
If Bubba Gump is thinking about opening there, it’s clear they haven’t done any market research. I can’t imagine it would last long if they actually opened. At least I hope not.
Your promoting donuts and fried chicken! Wow….. Bubba’s is awesome. Liberal tunnel vision is bizarre. Go Trump, Go!
