Pizzeria-and-More to Open on Coast Village Road

The building at 1080 Coast Village Road, previously home to Menelli Tile & Stone, The Well, and Mad Dogs & Englishmen bike shop, is getting converted into a restaurant called Sally Boy’s Montecito. It’s a brand extension of Sally Boy’s in Red Bank, New Jersey, founded in 2023 by Sal Basile of Artichoke Basille’s in New York City.

“It’s a combination of three concepts: Sally Boy’s pizza, Eataly, and Round Swamp Farm in the Hamptons,” says Dave Cantin, whose company is behind the project. “The presentation will have a Montecito feel, with very high-end quality food like Eataly.” Pizza is the primary focus, but there will also be plenty of the kind of Italian-American classics—strombolis, chicken and eggplant parm, rice balls, etc.—that you’d find in a New York slice joint, displayed at a counter cutting diagonally across the interior and in cases and on shelves along the wall. The plan also calls for a coffee bar in back, as Sally Boy’s will be open in the morning.

The idea came about after Cantin and his wife grew frustrated about not being able to drop in at Montecito restaurants. “We’re New Yorkers used to walking down the street and getting something to eat,” he says. While Sally Boy’s Montecito won’t have any seating inside, there will be tables and chairs on the rear patio.

Kevin Moore Architect is working on the buildout. Cantin says construction should start by late summer, and the goal is to open before the end of the year. (It’s a tall order, since the building is not currently a restaurant.) And he intends this to be the first of many Sally Boy’s outposts, some of which will be along the lines of the one in Montecito, while others will be more of a tavern/sports bar.

Real Housewives of NJ Dina & Dave- I knew eventually you’d bring the goods, though I thought it would be more meditative & flowy…

Love it! This is awesome. That’s a great spot and I welcome another food option on CVR.

I like the idea of a casual drop in place but the design looks sterile and boxy. Hint: Take a cue from the indoor/outdoor patio areas at Linden Square.

I like the concept, but agree with earlier comments, spin the style a little bit more laid back, too modern or industrial is a no no on coast village road. Mesa Burger tried that and it didn’t land well at all stylistically

Don’t forget it was also a filling station. The original building just keeps getting remodeled
