The Montecito Country Mart’s Post Office Has Been Spared

••• While at The Shopkeepers in the Funk Zone, a reader was told that the store will be closing, but I have been unable to confirm it. (The shop opened in 2017.) The company also has an outpost at Linden Square in Carpinteria.

••• Local crisis averted! The Montecito Association reports that the effort to keep the post office at the Montecito Country Mart has been successful.

••• Apparently, I manifested Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds (a.k.a. Sturgill Simpson and his band) playing at the Santa Barbara Bowl, but on a date when I can’t attend (September 9). They’re going to cook live.

••• As of April 7, the southbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Los Patos Way will be closed permanently. And starting April 23, the northbound off-ramp at Cabrillo Boulevard will be closed for construction (through mid-2028).

••• Women’s boutique Viva O Sol of Los Gatos has taken over Whiskey x Leather’s storefront at 1101 Coast Village Road. “The best way to describe our style is an opportunity to blend trendy and timeless, elegant and fun and classy and sexy. We love tropical prints, bold colors, trendy styles, expert construction, classic silhouettes and quality fabrics.” Thanks to D. for the tip.

••• Via commercial real estate agent Caitlin Hensel: “Level Up Jiu Jitsu & Fight Fitness has signed a lease for our new home at 3817 Santa Claus Lane. This marks the beginning of something special—a family-friendly fight fitness and jiu jitsu academy built for our entire community. From kids as young as 3 years old to adults, men and women, we’ll be offering personalized training experiences in jiu jitsu, striking arts, strength, conditioning, and functional fight movements.”

••• From the city: “The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is seeking up to 75 volunteers for a large-scale trail volunteer day to improve Sycamore Creek Trail and the Historic Olive Grove Loop in Parma Park. Heavy winter rains promote rapid vegetation growth and soften trail surfaces, making them highly susceptible to erosion and rutting when used while wet. This results in a need for increased maintenance. […] Tools, instruction, and lunch will be provided.” It’s April 18; RSVP here.

••• No one guessed last weekend’s Where in Santa Barbara…?—and this time the comments were actually enabled—so here’s the answer. It’s the Mural Room at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

Christine!

The previous concert w/ Sturgill Simpson at @sbbowl was my worst concert experience in 40 yrs at the venue- the crowd was chatty, inebriated and entitled. The group behind us was discussing a parent/teacher disagreement for the entire show while the row in front of us (separated by a concrete walkway), let us know they’d be standing the entire show and we could suck it. My $400 tickets got me a view of 4 large gals- the cowboy couple next to us were seething enough to unload 4 beers on the gals- which started a drunk whirling dervish of threats and non action to any of the 6 by staff.
I will stick to The Siren in Morro Bay and The Fremont in SLO- and am excited to see a show at The Libby this summer in Ojai- have fun at the LA invaded Bowl ya’ll
