Pressing Pause on the Redevelopment of Paseo Nuevo

••• “Paseo Nuevo Housing Plan Falls Short with Santa Barbara Council [….] Despite the developers pushing for a do-or-die vote, the council calls for more transparency and more affordable housing.” Noozhawk‘s report contained two moments worth noting. First, from councilmember Kristen Sneddon: “Our partners [at AB Commercial] looked me in the eye, as I am sure they did with others, and said, ‘If you don’t pass this deal, we’re going to leave it fallow like we have done with two other projects in Los Angeles right now, and that’s just the reality,’” Sneddon said. She said regardless of whether the threat was real, ‘it is not the way to build a partnership.'” And then there was this doozy: “Councilman Oscar Gutierrez raised the question of giving the mall back to the Chumash, since it was their land originally. He directed staff to put down on paper what the process would be to take such an action.”

••• “The plug has been officially pulled on plans for The Roots pot shop on Santa Claus Lane. […] Next on the county’s waiting list for a pot shop in the unincorporated Carpinteria Valley was Haven XV, a company that had proposed to install a storefront at 3825 Santa Claus Lane. But Haven XV has declined to pursue its application, county officials said. […] The Board of Supervisors will decide next year whether to reopen the application period for a dispensary in Summerland or the western Carpinteria Valley.” —Edhat

••• “Sable Offshore Corporation is now asserting that federal regulators should decide the pipeline issue, rather than state regulators. […] The company argues that under the federal Pipeline Safety Act, the pipeline constitutes an interstate pipeline facility. If that were the case, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration would have jurisdiction.” —KCLU

It begins with spikes of brilliant yellow flowers—and continues as the flowers transform into luminous seed pods that resemble tiny Chinese paper lanterns.” —Edhat (photo by David Gress, courtesy Santa Barbara Beautiful)

Christine!

Well- why not give the Chumash the Channel and let them operate Sable? Bring out the money making machines! I’m positive they would find a eco way to get that product directly to their gas station #WINWIN

My parents cut down their Chinese Lantern tree over 30 years ago, and I still marvel at all the shoots the old root system still sends out to this day.

Chinese Lantern Tree is so invasive and messy, its a bad street tree. Certainly be a beautiful tree in the landscaping, but it has its place.

As far as canceling the play or parade, just despicable, virtual, signaling from the city. They just had Halloween month ago.
There’s been no ice activity on the east side. And anyone with half a brain can figure out that ice would never try to get a bunch of people at a huge event. It would not work out well.

This just concretes the cities fear campaign, but their policy of releasing prisoners back into immigrant communities where we live, making our neighborhoods more dangerous is a daily threat to all immigrants, making life of all immigrants more dangerous.
So canceling a parade based on 0% chance of risk is so offensive, to act like they care, when their daily actions shows more than anything that they don’t care.
Canceling parades and allocating, emergency money for immigrants does not help immigrants.
Enforcing basic laws, not releasing criminals right back onto the street, and forcing illegal vending, for Latino owned businesses and restaurants…. is what helps immigrants.
And all these high-rises at their building, guess who has no parking. The immigrants.
