EMS Body Atelier
Private personal training amplified by electrical muscle stimulation, from Santa Barbara's first EMS studio
EMS Body Atelier is a private personal training studio in downtown Santa Barbara built around EMS, or electrical muscle stimulation. You wear a wireless suit that sends gentle impulses to your muscles while a trainer guides you through simple, low-impact movements, fine-tuning the intensity for each muscle group as you go. Your muscles contract more deeply and completely than they ever could on their own, without straining your joints. Sessions take 20 minutes, and twice a week is all you need to see and feel a real difference.
For people in their 50s, 60s and beyond, it’s a way to keep doing what you love, whether that means playing hard without the wear and tear of heavy lifting or simply moving through life with ease. It gives busy professionals and parents a complete strength workout, helps women in perimenopause and menopause and anyone on a GLP-1 hold on to muscle, and helps mothers rebuild core and pelvic floor strength, however long ago they gave birth. Athletes and dancers use it to push past plateaus, and people returning from injury use it alongside physical therapy.
We opened Santa Barbara’s first EMS studio in 2025 and have since guided more than 220 clients through over 1,700 sessions, more than any studio in town. We’ve been featured in The Wall Street Journal and the Santa Barbara Independent. EMS is all we do: every session is one-on-one or a duet on premium, fully wireless Wiemspro suits, and our trainers keep refining their craft with a visiting master trainer.
Co-founder Colleen Ferguson, a classical Pilates instructor for more than a decade and owner of Atwill Pilates, discovered EMS while rebuilding her core after her second baby. It gave her what nothing else had, so she and her husband, Andy Maser, opened EMS Body Atelier to share it.
Sessions are by appointment at our Anacapa Street studio or in your home. Your first session is $40 off.
